Standards Background

Most likely by the end of 2009 ISO/IEC 11801 will specify the highest requirements for Class EA channels and permanent links by using much more stringent Category 6A component specifications which have also been defined by this Standard. The following describes the different levels of definition made by the US American cabling standard EIA/TIA 568-B, the European cabling standard EN 50173-1 and the international standard ISO/IEC 11801. It also shows that the performance levels defined by the cabling standards (especially by the international and the European one) are well above the 10GBase-T IEEE 802.3an definition. The experts defining ISO/IEC 11801 have chosen a generic cabling specification rather than the application specific ones defined by IEEE and EIA/TIA.
